Bummer. We're working on a solution to this problem. We're open for suggestions.
But hopefully not anymore. We took the nest and the first egg out today. We left the nest on the ground, and wouldn't you know it, she came back and started taking pieces of the nest and putting them back in the box. So I took the nest and threw it in the garbage...she has been back several times, rooting around in the shavings and such (presumably looking for her egg). Seems a bit sad, but hey...sucks to be a non-native species!
So we'll hope this is sufficient to stop the nesting process, or at least send them somewhere else.
Hi All!
There are TONS of starlings in Ohio, and I dont think there is anything that will get rid of them for good. Its a constant battle Im afraid. I hope the Kestrels come soon, and help you run these pests off. Theres a Screech Owl nest in Texas where a starling was attempting to build a nest right on top of the incubating/sleeping owl!
